Thom Browne - Wha?
Maybe it's all some sort of Jeff Koons-ian high concept prank? And, yes, it's probably good that he's making tighter items (my next solo LP! - Tighter Items! Jimmy!) popular, and has "injected hip into Brooks Brothers" (c and p every writer of the last three years), but gimme a break. Then I read a profile of him and he's all about austerity, doing the David Lynch thing of eating the same meal at the same spot every day (more Pastis than Bob's Big Boy, but still) and smiling wryly at things only he gets. But how long can it last? More importantly, wouldn't Jarvis look stupid in one of these suits? I can't shake the feeling that he'll suddenly grow bangs and make pants that go about six inches past the end of the foot which will then have to be dragged, flopping, through the slush. Are you ready?
Plus he watched this too many times in his youth:

Important update
Everywhere, but...
This is to be the latest Morrissey album cover, which (and I may be in the minority here) I prefer to the last two by some distance. The Fred Perry, the mysterious tabby marking on the baby's head, the font left over when the designer for The 1910 Fruitgum Company cooled...sure, why not?I do wonder about the strange scarring on his forearm - I SO hope it's a tribute to/sign of solidarity with Padma Lakshmi!
Plus, his chin seems to have healed nicely from the excess of obsessive rubbing he gave it in that extra-footage interview on that Arthur Kane documentary...photoshop?

Holiday
Went to the local gigantic book fair last month (and just that fragment is so late-seventies in its evocations that it should read book faire, with the e); amongst all the unneeded literary lumber I dragged home something called Ten Years of Holiday, a compendium of pieces from the first ten years of Holiday magazine and I must say it's pretty great. EB White on New York, VS Pritchett on Spain, Paul Bowles on travelling in the Sahara (it's hot there, btw)... even a slab of glop by Faulkner "on" Mississippi, which makes me wonder if he was "on" the pot when he wrote it, slipping in and out as it does of Bill's typical irritating hallucinatory style. "Focus, Bill! FOCUS!" Paid by the word, most likely.Anyway, this book was a pleasant surprise. It's fairly cheap out there, if you should feel so inclined: http://www.alibris.com/booksearch.detail?invid=9483608325&query=ten+years+of+Holiday+fadiman&qsort=&page=1
So we're clear:
