Threadpaw!

Someone call John Milius up and get him to work on a screenplay for me, because on Saturday night, I got up like an old to go the WC and there was a long, pale piece of thread on the floor (the Bride had been sewing, but this was quite long - longer than a loose thread that would just be lying there) and when, in a sleepy fog, I pulled on it, a certain idjit let out a yowl. The thread was about four feet long, and, somewhere in the dark hallway, it was attached to a rear paw. Apparently torn off the bobbin, the balance of the thread was strewn all around the front room.

After a triage (the thread matched the fur but exactly) it was determined that the thread was wound tight around the leg and scissors were required. This bad kid hates her back legs to be touched, so it was a two-person job and yet my arm is still sliced 'n' diced like that of a sullen 13 year old girl with her first Cure record. So, yeah, a violent procedure!

Milius-tastic!

Take it for 'granate

Is the pomegranate thing still going? I try to be on top of trends; I was saying Gisele was done way back in the hoary old days of "orange is the new black" 1999, and I was among the first to declare the David Foster Wallace revival over. So cut me some slack if I don't know about the pomegranates. Very busy here, etc.

I don't bake, so it's unlikely I will make the cake herein:

I pine (cedar?) eternally for the pomegranate cakes that the local Lebanese church would sell at the local Oktoberfest when I was young...I think someone's gran made them and when she died so went the recipe. They were little yellow spongey cakes with grated tart pomegranate on them. Guh. I wish I had one RIGHT NOW.

Mile-high Chooch

My pal Chooch went to Chicago and went in the Sears Tower Glass Box of Death Thing, something I would not do in 150 zillion years. But, seeing as Chooch fends off superbugs and viruses and stuff all day long for a living, certain mortality from a height of 200 miles is no biggie, apparently:

NaboSummer '09 - update!

Yeah, well, it's going alright. Enjoyable, if not without a whiff of obligation.

Have tackled:

Pnin

Lolita

Ada

Transparent Things

And am in Bend Sinister, which is daunting, because I don't really care about the one man vs. Socialist State plot, which was probably Heavy Stuff in 1947. Still, it was written in English, so doesn't have the drag of the translated stuff (sorry, Dmitri). I DO wish, though, that my copy had this shit-hot cover:

I found a description in this one of snow melting like jewels on mud (or close to it), which is a famous (?) image from "The Vane Sisters," so I was heartened that if even VN repeats images, then I'm doing okay by posting a picture from I Can Haz Cheezburger.
Aren't I???

Well played, I Can Haz Cheezburger

Gangway

I know, I know - you woke up feeling fine today, everything was peachy and then - whaam! You were hit with that yawning chasm of gnawing dissatisfaction when you remembered that Fun Boy Three only ever put out one full-length LP. I know! We've all been there.

Well, here is an elixir, or sorts:

I dunno, Danes, right? The faux-Terry Hall vocalist here is great. This whole album is pretty good, if in need of remastering. I need to get more by these, as I read their later stuff really apes the PSB. Shit yes!

Plus, check out this "none more fey!" LP cover:

I can so picture myself buying this at Renaissance Music on a fall Saturday in 1986 I almost believe it happened.
