Oh lordy!

"Let me tell you what is was like in D_____..."
"Ugh - spare me..."
Look at Jack and brother Asher, for god's sake!

"Influences"

This may be the day I actually hear "Tea For One."
I need to go "get" a copy of Led Zeppelin Presence and listen to it once so I can drive along and imagine someone interviewing me/us about this record I am/we are doing and have imagined exchanges like:

Q: What were some of the influences on this record?

A: Well, New Order Technique, uh...the new Suede stuff.  Bryan Ferry's Olympia.  Led Zeppelin Presence...

Q: Huh.  Well, it's odd that those were influential, as this just sounds like another lousy record from D____.

A: [shuffles feet, starts tearing up...]

Everyone Knows I Mostly Ignore Neil Young

Technique month 2013: What we learned

Speaking of flags, I also have this shirt.  Maybe I will do
vocals in it next week?
Okay, so the last two days of February I must admit I listened to a burned disc of the (fantastic and growing) two new Suede (hello, Skrunt) tracks I have from their upcoming LP, so I failed to listen exclusively to Technique for all of the month.  Appypollyloggies.  BUT I sort of feel that I have shifted alliances, favorite tracks-wise, from "Mr. Disco" to "Dream Attack."  And the first side has really come on strong 24 years later.  "You once said to me/that I was a cruel man/and you know/I almost believed you..."  Nice!

Eleven months to go until Technique Month 2014, when I will have to plan something extra special for the 25th anniversary.

Bryan Ferry

I mean, touched up photo and professionally done and all, but this pic of BF on Pitchfork?  How good does he look?  I'm almost 67 myself and look like the dog's dinner.

I'm going to listen to Olympia.

Friggin' moths

And I'm gaining holes in about two sweaters a year at this point, but I'm torn - do I actually google "moth repellents other than mothballs" or just accept my fate and go around in the incidental George Plimpton-y sweater with a tiny moth hole in it because it's so fucking preppy?  Who will notice or care in this crass age either way?

America rules!

Well, I had this jean jacket in 1990 and wore it around until it was swiped from my unlocked car in 1994, although, in all honestly, I may have left it somewhere when drunk.  Pretty sure about the theft, though*.  Anyway.  A then-bandmate's mom said to me when I was wearing it: "You, of all people, wearing an American flag!"  I still don't know what she meant: was I someone who went around pissing on Amurrican values constantly by being drunk and sexing all over the place, or was it that I was such the Anglophile that I should have been wearing a Quadrophenia parka?  I will never know, so I should just relax.  But it's so very hard sometimes.

* fret not, got this back a few years ago on ebay (even the old 1990 Made in USA [take that!] version).  Have worn it maybe for a half-hour, but I have it.  Now I just need to find the Greek mythology book from my 2nd grade classroom and I will have EVERYTHING
