Something else I can't stand

You know in Goodfellas when they show the one mobster's body rolling over in the garbage truck and the garbage kid in glasses looks all shocked and says something like "Hold up!"?

I HATE THAT GUY!

His glasses and shit - it all denotes some back story of this earnest social science major who spent the summer of '73 on the trash trucks - both because he needed the money (mom was back home in Tuckahoe with the cancer) and because it was interesting anthropologically (and then he could bore his students later on at City College with his story about the summer he found a body in a trash truck)...

FUCK HIM!

Tuff

Speaking of Donna Tartt, sweet cover:

Overheard

[this re the state of Maine announcing warnings of tumor risk associated with cell phones]:

If I find out they're killing me with all this stuff, they better legalize my weed...

Wait, what?

Another new Patricia Highsmith bio I must get, even though I haven't read the last one! NO MATTER! Need it.

Especially after reading this fucked-up morsel in Jeanette Winterson's Times review:

[Highsmith] collected snails, liking their portable hiding place and the
impossibility of of telling which was male and which was female [don't we all? -
ed]. She traveled with snails in her luggage and kept hundreds in her
home. If she was bored at dinner parties [sic], she might get a few out
and let them loose on the tablecloth.

Um, what?

Still, it does bespeak a more civil time...do you think the spoilsports at airport security would let one travel with a satchel full of live escargot these days? Nope. Such BULLSHIT!

D_____: Thunderdome

Saw in the local paper that 23 (maybe it was 24) homeless people died this year.

But how many people died who had homes?

DO need to "acquire" this:

Seems very January to me:

Attention, last minute gift givers!

I'd rather have, I dunno, some butter...no, some detergent than a copy of It Might Get Loud.

Thanks!
