Sorry, everybody

There will be more room for stuff such as this!
Well, my picasa account is full and I'm not going to pay for more storage so I must dispose of pictures from the early days of the blog to make room for more posting fun 'n' games.  I know that this is not giving biographers/archivists much time.  I mean, what would the ancient libraries of Alexandria have been like with photos removed?

We will soldier on.  You will get through this.

Writing this yesterday,

but am sure that by now I am pissed at myself for not burning a copy of Very for the truck.

Slater?

What was wrong with me?  Fatigue?  Anyway, I referred to Skinner from Kell on Earth as "Slater" the other day.  No, not on the blog, in conversation.

Anyway: sorry, everyone.

A note:

I dragged additional weekend pictures off of my friend's phone yesterday and, of course, left them on the laptop desktop.  Given a choice between being able to see (10 minutes each way) and getting those pics (20 minutes each way, roughly), I went with getting the glasses.

This means that tomorrow I will post any interesting "leftovers" from my friend's phone.  That is to say,  because I intend to cover the weekend for the most part today, shots that would otherwise be unveiled sequentially will take on the air of stragglers.  I would hope that our loyal readership will not infer that tomorrow's shots should be thought of as being in any way inferior.

Shocking, this

Looking on my hard drive that has 11 zillion songs on it (for "We Rule the School"), I see I have a copy of Bon Iver's "Blood Bank." How? It must have been a free track on Magnet or Pitchfork, aeons ago.

I have let you all down.

A follower writes:

As per your own blog:

* per a cursory glance at the internet -
maybe he's stopped liking them and hangs out with Adam Duritz, the singer for
Maroon 5 and Tim Allen.

He is not the singer for Maroon 5 AND Tim Allen. I WANT MY OXFORD COMMA!

Hmm. Well, I regret if anyone was offended by this. My take is that if there is ambiguity the oxford or serial comma should be used. I saw no ambiguity, and would guess that our readers here, some of the most wonderful and intelligent creatures ever to exist, would feel likewise. The "singer for Maroon 5" line (Adam Levine, actually) was just a bit of denigrating or dismissiveness.

Again, we here at Nick Eddy Relents submit our apologies if this rankled.

The Shame

For the last couple of days (it has passed), I was convinced that the three-song run of "Big Bang Baby," "Lady Picture Show"* and "And So I Know," off Stone Temple Pilots' Tiny Music...etc was the Greatest Three Song Run ever. This is odd, because the rest of their oeuvre I find beneath discussion.

I don't know what was wrong with me. And it's passed, of course. But if I bothered you with this in the last 72 hours, I apologize.

* the bridge on this is still sick, however

Say your peace/piece

I swear I never knew that it is "say your piece" and not "say your peace" until Tuesday.

Sorry, Strunk!

The blue and the green

Kyle kept saying for weeks "All your pictures on the blog are blue!" which I ignored, like, "No, dude, it's just the light and the time of year..." Well, as you can see, the next swathe of pictures are green! Not sure how this happened, unless during some phone software update or when I put the phone in my pocket it auto-changed.

But, regardless, it being spring and today's topic mostly being our lovely community garden and its cleanup, green it is!

The J Geils Story

I may have mentioned him before but one of my coworkers is a guy who says things like "If you ain't sweatin', you ain't workin'!" and for whom the mere sight of me, in my sweaters and with my conspicuous bookishness, must raise hackles.

Yesterday, Ol' Dude sidles into my cube and thrusts a J Geils Live! cd in my bewildered mug.

"You want a copy of this? [Redacted] is burning copies."

Me, thoughtfully: "Um, no, I don't think so. No. Thanks, though."

Through a cynical squint: "It's only the best live album of the seventies!"

Then he sauntered off, harumphingly.

I should have shouted after him "DO YOU WANT THESE SMITHS DEMOS? VERY RARE! PROBABLY TURNED LOOSE BY MIKE JOYCE!?" but it was too late.

Nick Eddy Regrets

All those Traders World posts were to have have been titled "Shitty Blade Runner."

Thought of that while there, then forgot.

Nick Eddy Relents apologizes for the error and and any undue stress this may have caused.

Boxing day, further obfuscated

I had promised an enthusiatic follower of this blog a thorough run-down of what Boxing Day really is, and hoped I could craft a concise precis that would clear this up for mankind once and for all!

Alas, I may have to leave this chore up to Joe Webb, because I still get the same vague "origins of the term are unknown" kind of stuff, and the ever-present "bank holiday in the UK" and "servants were given gifts/a day off by their stone-faced masters" pabulum as when I wasn't concerned about this. Anyone who watches a late-era M*A*S*H* Christmas episode can tell you as much as I can on this.

So, sorry!

Jumped the gun

When I posted my best of 2010 the other week, there was surely no way that I would hear anything that would supplant those picks, right? I mean, it's the last two weeks of the year!

But I got that Summer Fiction thing that was in the New York Approval Matrix some weeks back and it RULES. Sorta Jens-y. Sorta like Honeydrips...I dunno, just chamber-pop kinda stuff but awesome.

Yay! Put this in the top ten somewhere.

You can stop hitting refresh

I know that many of you have not been able to eat or sleep, for sitting by your telescreen there waiting for me to post the promised playlist of best Bryan Ferry/Roxy Music tracks.

I have failed to get to it this week, with a lot of other things going on.

I apologize. But you wouldn't want something that I had half-assed, would you?

Next week for sure! Monday, even!

Words cannot express

I suppose I could hedge or say "gotcha!," but for anyone who spent this entire, glorious weekend indoors while looking in vain for "Losing Haringey" by the Clientele on their copies of God Save the Clientele, just because I erroneously said that is where it could be found, I am sorry.

Blogging is a lonely business; while the ease and grace of my syntax may indeed appear effortless, there is quite a bit of thinking involved, lone dark hours of soul-searching, etc. With so much brainpower used in its genesis, a blog can also run afoul of absolute exactitude standards, especially if the author is also made careless in the ecstasy of creation, or in doing New and Wonderful Things With Language.

The track in question is, of course, actually on 2005's Strange Geometry.

The question is: can you learn to trust again?

Correctione!

Am apprised by an attentive reader that Duke's dog (pictured) is actually an Italian greyhound, which makes sense, since Duke is proud of his Italian roots, despite being partially as Irish as Gerald O'Hara. But fine! I am looking for a Basque Bulldog, after all!

I am a liar

For as long as I can remember I told everyone within earshot that when and if I ever bought a house, I would put a drinking fountain in the front room.

Think of it! You're out cutting the grass, or watering, or making cats scatter (thirsty work!), and you could just walk into the front room of the place and mosey right on over to ice-cold, glass-free H2O! What could be better?

My sainted ex-wife heard about this crap all the time...so I had to be talking about it a decade ago. Before that? It definitely has a late 90's feel...so, yes, let's say the idea hatched in 1998. Maybe on the very day that The Boy With The Arab Strap dropped.

Anyway, I now own a house and I have not done shit about getting the drinking fountain in. Which is even more dumb, because Cory can get me an Oasis standup drinking fountain at cost. And when we someday have a pack of mewling, puking brats? Just hold their silly asses up to the fountain (or! tiny step ladder!) and they can drink to their hearts' content. No grubby kid hands on the glassware, either. Ungrateful little bastards! Where was I?

Oh, yes. I think this is an idea whose time has come.

Nick Eddy Regrets

It's been brought to my attention that our Caitlyn spells her name "Caitlin."

Nick Eddy Relents regrets the error, but it must be remembered that I am an old, old man nearing the end of my days and that we didn't even have the name Caitlin when I was a sprout.

Picture this man of 41, then...

...spending his birthday wondering whether Weezer's "green" album would have been made better if "Island in the Sun" was replaced with "Fearless" by Pink Floyd.
