Enough!

Elaine Stritch is fine, right - but enough already!

A reason I don't miss my Vanity Fair subscription

No, wait, three:

1. Kennedys

2. When they sent multiple "last chance" notices to renew, the price never really went down to anything that makes one go "um...okay!"  By which I mean like a dollar or dollar and a half and issue.  It was still like 32.50 or some shit, "saving you 60% off the newsstand price!"  NOT GOOD ENOUGH, GRAYDON!

3.  like the rest of Americans, I suffer greatly from "yoga scandal fatigue."

Oh, and the Band

Lisa Vanderpump, who is famous, at left

Local musicians here are taking the stage to perform all of The Last Waltz, as a fundraiser for local NPR warhorse.  Okay, fine.  Never mind the fact that it gives high school marching band people a reason to feel that playing a horn is somehow relevant to life or that the Band blows.   What is really sucking the life out of this tired earth is that Jeff Tweedy and dudes from friggin' Guster and whoever else are doing the same thing somewhere else (likely Chicago, am too lazy/annoyed to check).  Argh!

This, of course, provokes me to no end and makes me want to mount a staged production of the entirety of ABC's Mantrap (the movie tie-in made to capitalize on the success of Lexicon of Love) or maybe go on as a senior on X-Factor doing "Killing of a Flashboy."

Wedding Day 2

This shirt gets "weird" glances from homophobe trash who completely don't even know what they are looking at. "No, asshole, this design preceded the gay pride rainbow stuff by about a decade, it's from the New Order tour for Technique, when you were listening to fucking Whitesnake."
And gay dudes who want to give a thumbs up, well, good on ya, call Keith, etc., but you should also know
that is a New Order shirt from the tour for their 1989 album Technique.  ALL MANKIND
should know this and in fact be listening to "Round and Round" right now.

Good for her

Getting to end of Weeds, thank Christ, then I can
properly excoriate this bullshit show.  SO annoying.
Superglad for the mom that is being turned loose from the Mexican drug thing, but not so glad that I have clicked through even one article to see why this happened or whatever.

Also over these things:

* Articles about Carla Bruni/Sarkozy that mention her music career.

* the whole term "next level shit."

* war photographers and the risks involved

It will only get worse

And, you know, God bless David Foster Wallace, rest in peace, he had his pain, etc, BUT the citing of his every utterance on any topic (see Andrew Sullivan) in furtherance of making one's point: "David Foster Wallace on affordable eyecare:"  "David Foster Wallace on barbeque:" "DFW on Saturday morning rain in June:" -- it has to stop.

Not blaming you, exactly

No one told me that there was an exhibition in the UK in 2011 of the library book covers that Joe Orton and Kenneth Halliwell defaced in the early sixties, before Orton got famous and Halliwell murdered him with a hammer?  What's wrong with everybody?

RS End of Year Death March 1

P. 15: "People should never be afraid that Foo Fighters are ever going to break up." - Dave Grohl photo caption.

Thank god!  Now I won't worry that the baby's not going to get sleep in fear of this shit cataclysm!

Also crippling mankind/hastening the end

I'm well pleased that the Reds are in the playoffs, sure.  I'm not the biggest fan of the municipality of Cincinnati, what with their whole "they call D_____ the Gem City because it's the gem in the Queen City's crown" bullshit non-stop.

But whatever!  A co-worker is actually going to the game today.  Good for him!

My issue, along the lines of how I abominate and all non-championship inter-league play, is that the League Championship (not the ones being played now) - seven games?  No.  Should be five, as it was always.  I understand about $$$, but the Series is the October Classic, not the October Possibly Trailing Into the First Week of November Classic.

Is nothing sacred?

"Sheepdogs..." [said in sneering Dave Doughman-as-Bob voice]

I read Rolling Stone non-stop for about fifteen years (1984 - 1999) so it is crazy to me that I have never even looked through (nor even seen in a doctor's office, or at the oil change place) the new small-format magazine. Weird!

But then, when they have such winners as these guys, who look like the Spin Doctors and Kings of Leon had sex, on the cover, why would I?

But for the current events also mentioned as articles on the cover, I would think maybe this was a prop from some piece-of-shit Cameron Crowe movie.

AND I can imagine their "rock": lots of hard-driving numbers about drivin' back to you, with a hangover and a few "HAWNH HAWNH"'s thrown in (insert guitar solo here).

A few other things [UPDATED]

that are bugging me, then I'm done:

Springsteen and/or Dylan

The Girl With the Dragon Whatever in all forms

snoods - what the hell are they?

the fact that our kitchen water pressure has not been good since the kid came by to change us to one of those newfangled "readable from outside" water meters

Drake

the fact that generic classical "hold" music audible on nearby speaker phone was just referred to as "opera" by a co-worker

Hangover II

[good god, forgot the very thing that caused me to start this whole post: those trashy and bullshit modern fedoras that dipshits are wearing]

While I'm at it,

this depressed the hell out of me:

Where are the parents? These cats are appearing at some "club" in a strip mall, or wait - maybe it's actually IN a church (the club, I mean), I think the place moved - one of those places that has Christian bands in which aren't obviously Christian, who would would have lyrics like "she looked like a dreamcoat [Corinthians 9:22]'" or whatever. Plus, they all have different last names, per Wikipedia, so why are they all the exact same dude?

The really sad-making part (other than the fact there is probably some solitary girl here in town whose favorite band these guys are - and then she will be broken in two [spiritually only - it's a PG show! Shame on you!] when she sees the drummer SMOKING or something - I'm really overthinking this) is that any of the dopes who roll up will have no idea what "Scarlett O'Hara" means and just think it's rilly cool.

Fiddle dee fucking dee.

Negative

I'm in a great mood, but am tired of the relentlessly upbeat tone of recent posts.

So let me say that this is the dumbest name for a type of pizza ever:
