Serendipitous sign that the Clientele will be back

Old Alasdair from my beloved (the) Clientele is on Magnet this week with his bandmate from his new things Amor de Dias, which is fine, as he gently talks up such stray ephemera as Erik Satie and, you know, Soviet animation and...such. I feel pretentious just thinking about it! So good.

Anyway, one of his posts (on an eccentric [of course] UK photographer who goes into abandoned sealed-off areas to take pictures) featured this as an illustration:

Now, what do you expect that I noticed about my mother-in-law's property we are rehabbing, just last night while we were putting in deadbolts?

This can ONLY mean the Clientele will do another album, and soon! AND it will have another in a series of those weird spoken word tracks I like.

A sense of loss

Well, I rather like that Amor de Dias record, it's not like I had any choice...but now Alasdair from the Clientele has a post up on their web site that is all elegiac in tone, wherein he talks about how he's played some guitar for Comet Gain and is writing a book about being shiftless in mid-90's England [slobber]...but the whole post smacks of "yep, we're done."

So, while people you know are ambling about caring about whatever bullshit people care about, just know that a group I love may be done for. This has been a strange one, because I'm the only person I know who REALLY gives a damn about them. Odd!

Another band for you to ignore!

Hey - head Clientele's Alaister (sp? too lazy to look [ed: Alasdair]) has an album coming out with the singer from Pipas under the moniker "Amor de Dias" ["Love of Days," doncha know]. I'm not super-excited about it, but maybe it will be a mild summer jam for me? Hmm.

Anyway, just look at this sexy twosome [insert .wav file of The Price is Right "sad horn" here]:

My lonely quest continues

This here new Clientele ep, Minotaur, is perfect, natch. And a nice encapsulation of the whole band ethos [ick - reviewer-y prose! Sorry!]. There are several lilty gems, song-wise, the now-standard sort-of raveup ("Jerry"), a short instrumental, and a frickin' far-out spoken word blob, wherein the same narrator from God Save the Clientele's track "Losing Haringey" spins an eerie tale about seeing some sort of weird harvest figure "made of flowers" over wind noises and creaking doors for five minutes...needless to say, ACE! and we should have had this at our wedding.

Like that mysterious "Green Man," I will walk the periphery of reality spreading the glad tidings that the Clientele is about the best thing in the universe, and only I will care! RAWK!
