Don't forget

When spelling "capitol," as in the building, it's with an "o," and a great way to remember this is that you are throwing the o around the top of the building like a hoop in a ring-toss game.

You're welcome.

Is it me?

I think Sufjan Stevens is useless.

And while Girl Talk is, in theory, okay, it should be five times better.

Fuck it

When we finally get a backyard, I'm gonna have me a motherfucking flower clock.

Gore is right!

Andrew Sullivan took umbrage with this comment from Gore Vidal, which I took as only half-crazy:

"[America is] rotting away at a funereal pace. We’ll have a military
dictatorship fairly soon, on the basis that nobody else can hold everything
together. Obama would have been better off focusing on educating the
American people. His problem is being over-educated. He doesn’t realise how
dim-witted and ignorant his audience is
," - Gore
Vidal
.

The italicized portions are true, to my mind. Not just Obama, but Sullivan, too. When the vast majority of Americans don't even have library cards, and are proud of saying shit like "I hate to read," it's no wonder the populus is terrified of every thing that comes down the pike. I was just reading Graham Greene's The Power and the Glory, about priests in Mexico in the 30's when, in certain Mexican states, priests were being hunted down and shot. It reminded me, for the umpteenth time, that there is always real trouble somewhere, and, for the most part, it's usually not here. We can be at war for eight years in Afghanistan, but tell the truth - have you noticed? Are the Pringles at your local Circle K any different or whatever? My point? Not sure I have one. Just that the morons out there bitching about everything under the sun (on all sides) have no sense of history whatsoever and little gratitude for how good things are.

Another day I will grouse about: twenty years ago, if someone had said that friggin' world-created-in-seven-24-days-not-even-as-a-metaphor-style creationism would be back, would you have believed it?

A Dream I Just Had

In this dream, the Bride, her mother and I were going to the D_____ International Airport to pick up the Bride's high school chum Cassie, who was coming to visit (I've not met Cassie - but, Cassie, if you're reading this - leave a comment! Or better, send money!). There was an old-skool Tom Ridge-y TERROR ALERT in the dream, focussed on Milwaukee (?) and the Houses of Parliament. When we got to the airport, the D____ airport had been added to the list! Oh, noes. THEN, while we waited, I ordered a Sprite, which came in a styrofoam cup like one gets at Chik-Fil-A, but the cup rattled when moved in a may which seemed to betray more than just ice. Further inspection revealed there was a FUCKING SYRINGE in it!

This dream proves two things: 1. D_____ is a sewer and 2.) not everyone as it as easy as you do - particularly Dream Me.

Don't go all PTSD on me...or RISD...

Last October 1, I wrote one post and then was gone for the rest of the month. BULLSHIT! I'm guessing the more ardent followers of this blog saw yesterday's one post, thought "Christ! No! Here we go again..." and sank into a slough of despond, as there is, obvs, little else to stimulate thought on the Internet. But fear not: barring EMP, this shitstorm of blather will continue unabated in the '09.
We can expect such scintillating topics as "A Dream I Just Had" and "Gore Vidal is Right!"
