Yet another Cribs thing

In true "shocking" Manics style, Ryan from the Cribs once said:

“They want us to speak out about global warming but the biggest problem is the attitude of some indie bands. Isn’t that a bigger problem?”
 Brilliant!
Also, his brother played on a Boston Spaceships record, which I had forgotten.

Oh, Alasdair

Here's an interesting (to me, the only person in the world who cares about the Clientele, except Nithin's dad) interview with Alasdair from the Clientele.  I was sort of hoping he'd say some cheerily British thing like "We've got it sorted to record late next year..." but no such hope-giving statements are forthcoming.  Instead he talks about Amor de Dias, his other group and answers question thus (actual question being answered is immaterial):

Yes it does, specifically rhythms the Clientele probably couldn’t have mastered. Amor de Días also has more freedom from the band format, in that we don’t have four people owning four instruments who want to play on every single song.

Among men

1. Mike went to see the Meatmen on his birthday last week and they had a song called "The Dwarves are the Second Best Band in the World, Besides the Meatmen." Which rules.

2.  I still don't understand what makes people care a whit about the Walkmen.  They had "The Rat" but when was that nine, ten years ago?  I listened to their latest thing 2/3 of the way and just sort of drifted off.  They don't rock, the guy's voice is no big deal - they have some nice sweaters, but that's nearly it.  Oh!  And they were once Jonathan Fire*Eater, who also blew, but get points, sort of, for having an asterisk in their band name, pointlessly, pointlessly.

Mystery watch

Had lunch with my brother yesterday and said "Where the hell did you find that watch?"

It had been my dad's in WWII era and I had worn it through high school!  Thought it was gone forever, that I had lost it drunk or left it in somebody in college...

He said it was found when clearing out my folks' place.  So now I have it back, though it loses time like that's its job.  I may get it repaired (125.00?) out of the SNER100K fund ($98,725).

Radium painted numbers!  Wrist cancer awaits.

"Pure O"

Ugh, will not leave my head:

And these are less than 150 bucks!

Molded resin animal heads.  One of the would be SICK in the front room.

Let's get ahead of ourselves and spend the 100K

I'm still waiting for word that I can stop blogging, but as I am a mad budgeter, I'm trying to spend the $100,000 you're all raising already.

Back in 1991, I had this shirt at left.

Among the Lo-lifes, it's probably $1000 now.  So that's 1/100 of the Stop Blogging dough spent, if I can find this on ebay.

Mine from back then was finally falling apart at the seams by 1997 or so.  Shoulda kept it; even trashed it would probably go for a couple hundred bucks.
