The Red Tennis Ball Story

Full of southern gothic mystery and intrigue, obviously.
Also Monday I read a book about Stanley Kubrick so I could get rid of it.  By that Herr guy who wrote about Vietnam.  It was all about his relationship with Kubrick, so big whoop.  94 pages, and on the "pitch" pile.  But a passing mention of the red pool table from Eyes Wide Shut made me think: "Ah, yes, the red pool table from Eyes Wide Shut..."  So I guess it was worth it.

Then, on Tuesday, I was out in the field at work where I have my wee community garden.  On the way back from watering I found a red tennis ball (it's heavier than a normal one) which, I guess, belongs to the people who have the service that brings dogs to chase the geese away in the spring.  Still, a red tennis ball - that put me in mind of Joel's invalid father in Other Voices, Other Rooms, who communicates by throwing red tennis balls down the staircase from his sick bed.

So.
