A story about Paris Review that kind of blew my mind

This was from a George Plimpton profile in an old (1987) issue of GQ:

When (Harold) Humes was moved down the masthead as punishment for summering in the south of France rather than sweating in Paris, he exacted revenge: He met the boats carrying the first issues to America shouting, "Le Paris Review, c'est moi!," ripped open the cartons and stamped his name over the mastheads until his arm gave out.  (The forgiving staff later chipped in and had Humes's brain insured.)
So many things that are all "???" about this - but it rules!
