Not actual culprit, but close

Not that it was perfect - there was some superfan and bored wife at my right, a couple of seats down.  When some "expert" in the movie pointed out  how, in the insert book, the picture of Jimmy watching the 1973-era band leave the Hammersmith Odeon was a representation of the mod era looking at what the band had become (revela-fucking-tory!), this guy turned in the dark and clambored excitedly "That's right!  That's right!"

And then an audible groan and "tragedy!" when Pete said the band when back to playing Tommy after no one really gave an arse about Quadrophenia on release.  Yep, really.
