I don't remember ever reading any Winnie the Pooh stuff when I was a kid, since all that was in the house was The Thorn Birds, Your Erroneous Zones and probably Rich Man, Poor Man. But! in looking through boxes of crap in my mother-in-law's basement, I found some old kid-lit treasury that contained the mighty "In Which Eeyore Has a Birthday and Gets Two Presents." For the uninformed, this is where it's Eeyore's birthday (duh) and Pooh gets him a pot of honey and Piglet gets him a balloon. Pooh eats the honey before it's present time, and Piglet, running to get to the party, trips and pops his gift:
I think about these two pictures (or, rather, they show up unbidden in my mind) more than I'd care to admit.
Piglet and Pooh fess up and give Eeyore the empty honeypot and the balloon remnants. Eeyore then happily spends the rest of the day sticking the balloon bits in and out of the pot.
Good, if slightly creepy for kids, times!
