Another wasted skill imposed on us by The Man

Something I've noticed as an alleged adult: no one talks about root words. In elementary school, one spends a bit of time deciphering the root of those pesky 12-letter words. I myself remember, in Mrs Henry's third grade class, we were doing a stretch on "root words" and I incorrectly deduced the root of "information" to be "info." Mrs Henry tutted gently and said that I was close, but that "info" was slang, and did a humorous little "bit," sort of Sally Fields doing Barney Miller-era Ron Glass: "Hey, man, you got the info[the actual root word is inform, it turns out]?"

Anyway, like any math beyond long division, knowing root words turned out be useless.
