Then there's Brett Smiley, who Andrew Loog Oldham was trying to push to seventies stardom. A friend told me to check his (one) record out and it's a weird mishmash of a few originals and hyper-glammed out covers like "I Wanna Hold Your Hand." I was all excited about one of the songs until I realized it was just the Carpenters' "Solitaire" put through a Ronsonizer. Still, an odd curio!
