Here are some:
1. Somedays I want a brand new playlist on the iPod knockoff, with "surprises" coming at me. Mix of new and old, some songs that feel good for the time of the year. So then, the playlist can be repeated for a couple of days, until the itch of overfamiliarity takes over...
2. New/whole record day: whole LPs digested and spat out. Sometimes a new record comes out and I need to play it clean into the ground, til it's absorbed. Other times, a quick perusal of tracks and then a cursory dismissal. Other times, a whole "old" favorite hits the spot. Like, wake up needing to hear Imperial Bedroom or Violator...Spilt Milk...
3, Making a mix CD day - I'm having one of these, have just enough new shit and enough desire to hear "And Your Bird Can Sing" that I have assembled a new CD-length playlist. Then at the end of the day I will burn this pup and drive around with it all weekend. Wait, here it is:
Pet Shop Boys - Love, Etc
Gringo Star - All Y'all
Belle and Sebastian - String Bean Jean
Art Brut - Alcoholics Unanimous
Depeche Mode - Wrong
Beatles - And Your Bird Can Sing
Doves - Kingdom of Rust
Fight Like Apes - Lightsaber C-cksucking Blues
The Virgins - She's Expensive
Lily Allen - Chinese
Tahiti 80 - Unpredictable
Lilac Time - Bank Holiday Monday
West End Girls - A Little Black Dress
Morrissey - It's Not Your Birthday Anymore
Blur - Get Out of Cities
Rufus Wainwright - Millbrook
St Vincent - The Strangers
Phoenix - 1901
['wildcattin'' speech from Royal Tenenbaums]
Hot Leg - Cocktails
The Love Language - Two Rabbits
Camera Obscura - My Maudlin Career
New Order - Here to Stay
So, yeah, that comes out to, what?, 79:24. Looking at it, I'm old and seem to like bands from England. Dumb!
