I'd never heard this song, though it supposedly sold 11 million copies, and was number one in 1974, concomitant with my friend Chooch's birthday. My birthday week, something called "Get Back" by some band from Ireland or somewhere was number one.
The song itself is by KC and the Sunshine Band who recorded it and then noticed it was too high for any of them to sing. Maybe they were too high to notice that when they recorded it.
Also, George McCrae now lives in Aruba while KCatSB remnants likely roam the county fair/Branson/4 nights in Vegas circuit. Moral: when some dumb friends of yours ask you to bring your squeaky voice over to sing on their rekkid, do it. You can read something while they're screwing around setting up AND you may end up living in Caribbean!
