"Very hot, but rain in afternoon."

George Orwell, dead since 1950, has a blog!

It started Saturday and is actually his diary entries starting from seventy years ago (August 9, 1938). The scintillating headline above is from his entry of seventy years ago today.

Life was just like now! Except that it's not very hot today. Global cooling?

Someone already did this with Samuel Pepys, as well, who was more of a famous diarist, so that maybe makes a bit more sense...but, still, this could be interesting as time goes on:

"Sept 1939: rumours of war. Had a walk and some plovers' eggs."

"22 April 1946 - had an eerie feeling that someone called James (or maybe John?) Waters was just born in Baltimore in the United States. This mewling infant may one day come to ape my facial hair..."

"2 January 1950 - feeling a bit peaked. Perhaps I should dash to the surgery? Nah."
